The Center for Global Policy Solutions (CGPS) is pleased to invite you to participate in an upcoming Health Equity Design (HED) Lab as a part of our Allies for Reaching Community Health Equity (ARCHE) initiative. HED Labs are designed to build consensus and incubate the best ideas that promote equity across the social determinants of health.
The design lab process, titled “Mind the Gaps: Gender Pay Equity and the Implications for Health Equity” will explore the causes and consequences of gender-based pay inequities and their impacts on the health and economic wellbeing of women, children and families. The HED Lab will also seek to build consensus on solutions for addressing gender pay inequities and their resultant burdens (e.g., economic, housing and food insecurity, caregiver stress).
Leaders with diverse perspectives will come together to explore the aforementioned topics and make recommendations to change or improve the practices, policies and systems that influence women’s earnings and their family’s economic security. Solutions may include expanding access to programs that indirectly affect the gender pay gap, such as affordable child care and housing initiatives. Particular attention will be paid to developing intersectional strategies that pay attention to the unique experiences of women of color who not only earn less than men and their white female counterparts, but often experience additional systemic disadvantages that may exacerbate the impact of gender-based pay inequities.
Mind the Gaps HED Lab participants will gather in Washington, DC, for the first HED Lab Meeting on May 4-5, 2017. Following that event, we invite you to save the date for the HED Lab Strategy Summit on Jun 1-2, 2017, where a cohort of HED Lab participants will gather to re-examine the proposed ideas and strategies that emerged during the first meeting and to vet a formal Action Strategy Report with recommendations for the health equity community.
